Ahhh!
Sailfishing off Guatemala!!!!…
When the intense action of a big Pacific Sail fish emerges to crash the
bait on the ocean surface…When the reel screams and the water parts,
as this pelagic mass erupts and leaps high out of the blue water…When
you not only see all this on the surface, but feel the brute force of this
beauty of the sea as it is transmitted thru the monofilament line to the
rod in your hands. And as he nears the boat the electric blues and purples
that radiate thru a Sails body become apparent and are so vibrant that one
may question how Ma Nature can do such a thing without being plugged into
an electrical outlet!
Yes, Sail fishing is unique and offshore Guatemala is a veritable stew of
sailfish and other pelagic species.
Where else in the world can you combine superb Sail fishing conditions with
a backdrop of rich Mayan culture, magnificent active volcanoes (as seen
from the boat) all in a lush tropical paradise? The variables of currents,
water temperature, and underwater geography combine to put Guatemala as
the best place in the world to bag a Pacific Sail!.
The Pacific coast of Guatemala is home to a new marina, Marina Pez Vela,
where we can easily access the ocean via a harbor, without having to pass
any tricky inlets. Ocean conditions off Guatemala are generally known to
be calm and Sail fish tend to be prevalent anywhere from five up to forty
miles offshore.
Our comfortable 26’ boats (Superpangas) are fully equipped with a
Fish Finder, GPS, Marine Band Radio, Shimano Ltd. Reels and Outriggers.
The bait used is Ballyhoo and we use modern, conventional tackle and lures
to ensure the best chance of bringing back some Sailfish. Circle hooks are
used for a healthy release of the Sail fish.
Capitan Tom Boice will guide you. He has been living in Guatemala for 17
years, has been fishing here for over ten years and has a lifetime of experience
on the water (you may even have seen him as a stunt double for Kevin Bacon
in the movie ‘The River Wild’). Tom will adapt to all levels
of Sail fishing experience and guide you as and when you wish.
A delicious choice of lunches, snacks and beverages (ice cold beer, for
example) are included in your outing. And if desired, we have a Sashimi
setup, upon catching a tasty Mahi Mahi - which are also prevalent. As a
back up, in extreme weather conditions, we can continue our fishing onshore
for species such as Roosterfish, Wahoo, and Jack Crevalle.
What are you waiting for! |
